Safety Guidelines For After Your Water Damage

8/4/2020 (Permalink)

We are heading into peak storm season, and flooding is always a major concern whenever a storm approaches the state. Immediately following your water damage, there are some things you must do within the first twenty-four hours to ensure your home, and you and your family’s safety.

  • Turn off the main from your fuse box. This will ensure that you are not in danger of standing in water with the electricity still on.
  • Always inspect the home for structural damages like foundation cracks and holes.
  • Contact all your utility companies if you suspect any of their lines are compromised.
  • Clear tap water does not mean that it’s safe to consume so use bottled water or boil your water until you are advised that your tap water is once again safe.
  • Food that has come into contact with flood waters must be thrown out.

These simple guidelines are meant to prepare you for a post flood event. Do not proceed with remediation. Let the experts at SERVPRO of South Orange County handle all your flood recovery needs.
